TAMMUZ 10

Making my Deposit

“And these Words … shall be IN your heart” (Deu 6:6 ISR, emphasis mine)

“These words … are to be ON your heart” (Deu 6:6 CJB, emphasis mine)

The Hebrew word used in the original text of our opening verse and translated as the word ‘in’ is the word ‛al (Strong’s H5921) and can mean both ‘in’ and ‘on’. Jeff Benner, in his Ancient Hebrew Dictionary, defines ‛al as “to be on or over in the sense of the yoke that is placed on the neck of the ox.”[1] That gives us an interesting picture, of the Words of our Elohim on us, in the way a yoke controls the movement of an ox. Sheds more light on the words of our Messiah, when He tells us to “take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings. For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.” (Mat 11:29-30) Something to meditate on …

We have already discussed the explanation of ‘heart’ (see Tammuz 5, All Your Heart) being the seat of our emotions, affections, and passions. Do you suppose that we are to allow the ‘yoke’ of His Words to guide, direct, and have sovereignty over all that we are, everything that makes us ‘tic’? And then the next question would be the how are we to do this, that His Words would be in and on our hearts?

There is a relatively simple illustration to explain this ‘how.’  Most of us have at least one bank account, if not more. In order for us to draw from our account, it is necessary for us to first deposit into said account. We know that our money is in our account, courtesy of the deposit receipt, for us to use as we have need. We do not need to physically see it, but we know it is there. The same principal applies to us, when we choose to ‘deposit’ more of our Creator’s Word into the ‘account’ that is our heart. We do not see where this Word lies, but we know that it is there, for us to draw upon as we have need. And naturally, the more that we deposit, the greater our balance!

“For wisdom would ENTER YOUR HEART, And knowledge be pleasant to your being, Discretion would guard you; Understanding would watch over you, to deliver you from the evil way…” (Pro 2:10-12, emphasis mine)
