TAMMUZ 7

Might

“Love Adonai your God … WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.”  (Deu 6:5 TLV, emphasis mine)

The Hebrew word translated as ‘strength’ is the word me'ôd (Strong’s H3966), and means “force, abundance, greatly, exceedingly and might”. Daniel Webster, as one of his definitions for the word ‘strength,’ says this: “ Power or vigor of any kind.”[1]  How does one love our Creator with such power and strength?

I submit to you this possible scenario:  it takes great strength and fortitude to continually resist and turn away from all the many temptations that come our way, with the obvious intent of relegating our Elohim to the ‘back burner.’  When we are the only one within the family unit attempting to ‘walk the Torah walk,’ it takes great strength and endurance to be that light that our Abba desires us to be, without succumbing to the temptation to compromise. When our employer demands that we work on the Saturday Shabbat, it takes backbone and strength to stand and say, “No, I am not available to work on Saturdays.”  And when family members begin to ridicule and deride us for refusing to celebrate pagan holidays, it is the strength and might within us that helps us to stand strong, honoring our Creator and King.

We have all been there. And we know the joy of overcoming that particular trial, of knowing that our choice to place our Elohim first is always the right choice. I believe we go from strength to strength, building strength and might as we overcome each one of these trials and temptations (see Ps 84:5-7). And we all look toward that day, when our Master will stand before us and say, “Well done, good and trustworthy servant. You were trustworthy over a little, I shall set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (see Mat 25:21) AMEIN!
