TAMMUZ 13

As You Are Going About

“… and shall speak of them … when you walk by the way …” (Deu 6:7)

Walking involves movement; we are going somewhere. It may only be from one end of the house to the other, or from one end of the grocery store to the other – all of it involves movement. Walking, during the time that these words from Deuteronomy were written, was the primary method of travel, of getting from one place to another. Discussing the Word of our Elohim with another person while you are walking is time well spent; we have our Messiah Yeshua as our example in this (see Luke 24:13-27).

Present day travel is most often done by vehicle, and most come equipped with tape, CD or MP3 player. Many of us choose to listen to music or teachings while travelling; however, there is another option also available. The entire Bible is available on CD, in many different translations, according to your personal preference. Messianic Torah Observant Israel (M.T.O.I.) also offers the complete Bible, read from “The Scriptures” version (ISR), available on their website for free download. The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) offers their version of the Tanach on audio books (https://jps.org/jps-audio-bible/), through such vendors as iTunes, Audible, and Scribd, for those of you who may be interested.

Most of us are well familiar with the verses that describe the ‘function’ of the Word (see Ps 119, to start with), but we must also remember that this Word, this Torah, always has an effect – of some kind (see Isa 55:10-11). The more of our Elohim’s Word that we deposit within ourselves – through the channel of ‘hearing’ – the closer we come to reflecting the image of our Messiah to those around us. And is this not the change we are all reaching for?

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.”  (Rom 12:2)

“…since you have put off the old man with his practices, and have put on the new one who is renewed in knowledge according to the likeness of Him who created him …” (Col 3:9-10)
