Speak and Hear

“…and shall SPEAK of them when you sit in your house …” (Deu 6:7, emphasis mine)

“Therefore, faith is by the HEARING OF THE EAR, and the hearing of the ear by the word of Eloah.” (Rom 10:17 HRVS, emphasis mine)

It is my custom, once my kitchen is cleaned up in the evening in preparation for the following day, to sit and read. Next to my recliner I have a small pile of books, together with my Kindle, covering everything from Bible commentaries, Ancient Near East History, and even the occasional novel. I enjoy reading – much more than television – and my Amazon account confirms that.

However, I learned a valuable lesson very early in my relationship with my Creator, taken from the verse quoted from the book of Romans. Whenever I sit and read His Word, I need to read out loud, because “faith is by the hearing of the ear.”  In other words, when I hear the Word that I am reading, it increases my emunah and bitachon, my belief, faith, and trust in the One who created me.

“I believe Master, help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24,)
